Chief Executive Officer

George Tyler, founder of Century Granite Company, entered into rest on January 29, 2002.  He grew up in the granite industry, and as a youth he worked in the granite industry for his father, Felix.  After graduating from Georgia Tech in '54 he received a commission in the U.S. Air Force, served two years on active duty and 14 years in the Air Force Reserve.  He joined his father at Century, full-time, in 1957, and he bought the Company after his father's death in 1964. (He had good credit with his mother). His wife, Patsy, and his sons, Louis and Wolfe, worked together to grow the business from small to large.  Wolfe passed away nine years ago, but his brother Louis is working with his mother and father with a common vision.

Patsy Tyler entered into rest peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2019, with her husband of 59 years, George B. Tyler, at her side.

Patsy was born in Birmingham, AL, and was a graduate of Auburn University.  She taught in both the Atlanta and Elbert County school systems, and later joined her husband, George, in the granite industry. Patsy and George owned and operated Century Granite Company. 

She is survived by her husband, George, as well as children and their spouses: Susan Tyler Haas and her husband Kenneth of Charlotte, NC, Johanna Tyler Anderson of Rockville, MD, and Louis Eugene Tyler and his wife Elizabeth of Elberton; grandchildren: Kali Milner, Kasey Haas, Hannah Haas, Lexi Haas, Tucker Haas, Sasha Anderson, Sintija Anderson, Habtamu Anderson, and Alex Anderson; great-grandchild: Ren Milner; and the past and present employees of Century Granite Company, whom she always held dear to her heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Phillip Wolfe Tyler; and siblings: Helen Jo Watlington and Harry Eugene Watlington, III.

She is missed by family, friends and customers.

In addition to being president of Century, Louis personally works with customers in the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Colorado where his commanding knowledge of the granite industry enables him to quickly solve most problems.

Ann has 20 years of extensive and varied experience in the monument industry. She knows a great deal about carving and lettering which enables her to help customers design and sell monuments.

Phil grew up in the monument business working for his father who was co-owner of Grimes Brothers Granite Company. He has been a personal friend of the Tyler family since early school days, and he has a broad range of experience in monument design, manufacturing, and sales. Phil has traveled widely in the USA, Australia, and Europe and enjoys working with cemeteries, funeral homes, and monument dealers to create unique designs.

Jessica works with Phil Grimes in 6 states. While assisting customers she makes many of the drawings for approval. Jessica comes from a granite industry family. She and her Husband Adam have one son, Dakota.

John grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and has two children and four grandchildren. He worked for his father who owned 2 funeral homes, and he later owned and operated a retail firm, Corey Monument Company.  His main focus is developing and maintaining relationships with customers on the Eastern Seaboard.
